While demanding that Hyderabad be made common capital, when Telengana is made a separate state, M.P. Harshakumar recalled the electoral pact of 2004, between the Congress and T.R.S. to pursue towards bringing in a separate state for the 10 Districts of the Telengana. What went between the Congress and the T.R.S. is now history. In 2009 Telugu Desam Party too had the same electoral pact with T.R.S. and went to the polls with a promise of support to separate Telengana State. Politics being politics, now TDP Chief wouldn't stick to his commitment and that again is history.
But as and when two or three states are created out the present Andhra Pradesh, all the three states would be needing a fully developed capital and towards this end all the two or three state can share Hyderabad. However, due to the principle of the State capital to be nearer to its people of all that state, each state that is getting separated and geographically away from the current capital should identify a suitable place to develop their individual state capitals, which would enable a better governance and equitable development of those states.
And and as for the UPA leadership, it is high time to show some mettle and take final call on this long burning issue of demand for a separate state by the Telanganaites.
