Deadly twisters claim 91 lives in US midwest

DEADLY tornados have swept across the US midwest for the second time in a month, causing damage from Wisconsin to Texas and killing at least 91 people.


In Joplin, Missouri, 89 people are confirmed dead, but authorities warned that the death toll could climb as search and rescuers continued their work.


City manager Mark Rohr announced the number of known dead at a pre-dawn news conference outside the wreckage of a hospital that took a direct hit from Sunday's twister.
