NEW DELHI: India will get access to 26/11 plotter Tahawwur Hussain Rana for questioning after his trial in Chicago gets over, possibly by June-end. Stating this, Union home secretary G K Pillai said on Saturday that India should also get access to David Coleman Headley's wife, Shazia Gilani.

In an exclusive interview with TOI, Pillai said that India can challenge the immunity Headley has secured from the US prosecutors if the political leadership so willed, expressed disappointment with US secretary of state Hillary Clinton's statement giving a clean chit to Pakistan over Osama bin Laden's presence in the country and acknowledged differences between the home ministry and the ministry of external affairs over how to engage the hostile neighbour.

On the differences in the government over rapprochement with Pakistan, the home secretary stressed that the divergence was not about whether to engage with Pakistan but only on how to engage. "I don't think there is any difference that we need to engage with Pakistan. Even in the home ministry we want to engage with Pakistan. I think there is differing perception on how you go about it...how tough you need to be in terms of bringing perpetrators of terrorism to justice... because you cannot be all goody-goody and expect result from them... At some point of time you need to exercise some element of pressure... that is an issue for us," said Pillai.

Anyway, will India ever initiate the process of extraditing Rana or Headley, which attempt could have fair chance of success, in American and Canadian Courts?
