New Delhi, May 25 (IBNS): Indian Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said that the 350 tonnes of toxic waste at the abandoned Union Carbide factory in Bhopal, remnants of the 1984 tragedy, was to be dumped near a laboratory near Nagpur.

However, it could take up to two years to remove the entire dump, he said adding that Centre was contemplating that the defunct factory site be razed as it poses a toxic threat.

“The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has shown interest and we are going to take that interest forward. There will be discussion on this.

“The laboratory of DRDO is situated 40 kilometres from Nagpur. We will also have to take the Maharashtra government into confidence for burning of this waste. I am going to write a letter to the Defence Minister A K Antony tomorrow," said Ramesh.

Hope, with that it would be completely neutralized!
