• US on Friday expressed apprehension that the nuclear weapons and technology of Pakistan might fall into the hands of terrorists and thus stressed on having the lines of communications open with Islamabad.
  "It's a country with an awful lot of terrorists on that border," Admiral Mike Mullen Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters at a joint Pentagon news conference with the Defence Secretary, Robert Gates.
  "Things that I fear in the future, it's the proliferation of that technology, and it's the opportunity and the potential that it could fall into the hands of terrorists, many of whom are alive and well and seek that in that region. And that's of great interest, I think, to our country and certainly to the rest of the world," Mullen said in response to a question.
  Gates argued the US strategy against terrorism is succeeding and Pakistan is playing a contributory role to that.
  "It is important to remember that they have 140,000 troops on that border, that at a minimum are stirring things up. They basically cleared South Waziristan and Swat. But even their presence and manoeuvring and so on creates uncertainty," he noted.

Safety of the Nuclear Assets of Pakistan has always been a grave concern for India and many other members of the International Community and the same fears have been constant.

However, US give full safety certificate to Pakistan, whenever it received full cooperation in its 'war-against-terror' and whenever Pak refused such cooperation they raise the bogey of 'Nuclear Safety' to give pressure through IAEA and members of International Community.

This kind of flip-flop manipulations would boomerang on its face, at the end!

The Taliban has said they have no plans to attack Pakistan's nuclear arsenal as it is the only Muslim state to possess such weapons, amid global concerns over the possibility of atomic weapons falling into the hands of terrorists.

Taliban has stepped-up a violent campaign in Pakistan to avenge Osama bin Laden's killing and has renewed fears that the country's warheads could be vulnerable.

Declaring that ‘Pakistan is the only Muslim nuclear power state,’ Taliban Spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan said that his group had no intention of changing the fact, ‘The Wall Street Journal’ reported. The Taliban, after all, aim to take over Pakistan and its weapons, the paper said.

• It is a wonder that in 26/11, the jihadis after successfully breaching three layers of Indian maritime defence, inactive in all but name - the outer zone manned by the Indian Navy, the coastal zone patrolled by the Coast Guard, and the inner-most defensive line policed by Harbour patrols — merely shot up a couple of hotels when they could have done something really spectacular — a “Pearl Harbour” by sinking a good part of the Western Fleet anchored at the time in the Mumbai naval base, only a few hundred meters from where they landed.
  That the raiding team did not have expert frogmen capable of attaching limpet mines to warships below the waterline to sink them; and, instead, the AK-47-toting yahoos (like Ajmal Kasab) were given license to raise hell on Mumbai streets and in hotels, suggested that while the Pakistan Army was quite happy to show off its ISI-managed terrorist-operational prowess and, its flipside, India's vulnerability, it was simply not prepared to risk instigating action — such as the destruction of the Indian naval strike fleet that was well within its capacity to prosecute — that would have triggered total war, ending in Pakistan's extinction. In other words, for all its risk-taking propensity, Pakistan Army understands that it cannot afford to provide India provocation so outré as to push Delhi into a justifiable ratcheting up of violence to the strategic level.

The Pakistan government on Wednesday pledged to eliminate militants and destroy terrorist hideouts even as it dismissed fears about the safety of its nuclear assets in the wake of a string of high-profile terror attacks targeting the military.

• The Defence Committee of the Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani this evening, decided that defence and law enforcement agencies would be ‘authorised to use all means necessary to eliminate terrorists and militants’.
  Describing national security as a ‘foremost priority’, the committee decided that ‘all arms of the government will ensure that terrorist hideouts will be destroyed using all appropriate means.’
  Will he will, ever, authorize the elimination of L-e-T, J-e-M, the socalled Rogue elements of ISI and Pakistani Army?  
  After sheltering, training, arming and exporting Terrorists and when its whole economy is dependent on the revenues it earns from those activities, can Pakistan ever afford to lose them, overnight?
  And like it lost control of its key naval-air base to the Pakistani Taliban, for 16 hours, it might very well lose control of its nuclear assets.

KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani commandos regained control of a naval base Monday from a team of Taliban militants who had attacked then occupied the high-security facility for 18 hours, dealing a bloody and humiliating blow to the military.

The attackers destroyed at least two U.S.-supplied surveillance planes and killed 12 security officers.

The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the assault in the city of Karachi. The militants said it was revenge for the May 2 American raid that killed al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden and the insurgents were under orders to fight until the death.

They couldn't protect one of their crucial Naval Bases, from a bunch of not so well trained Talibani Terrorists, numbering around 20.  Can they protect their Nuclear Bombs, from these rogue elements?
