An UPA ally, NCP, on Thursday joined the opposition in charging the Government with adopting a “soft approach” towards terrorism.
Participating in a discussion in the Rajya Sabha on growing incidents of terrorism in the country, Yogendra P. Trivedi (NCP) said, “We are probably too soft in handling terrorism. Killers and terrorists should not feel India is too soft on them.”
There have been several terrorist attacks in the country in the last decade, he said, adding “This has become something which is common and people have become resilient.”
Mr. Trivedi said it is the primary duty of the state to protect its citizens. Giving an example of a ship lying abandoned on the Versova coast, he wondered “how a ship could come all the way to Versova coast without anyone knowing about it.”
Favouring more investigative powers to the police, the NCP leader strongly advocated that mercy petitions should not be kept pending for long.
Mr. Trivedi’s comments assume importance in the wake of Maharashtara Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan stating after recent Mumbai blasts that the State Home Minister should have been from the Congress party.
Govt terrorist-friendly
Participating in the debate, senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi charged the Government with promoting “terrorist-friendly” policies.

RSS, Hindu-outfits behind some blasts: Paswan
“Don’t hold only minorities responsible for all terrorist attacks,” Mr. Paswan said pointing out that CBI reports say Abhinav Bharat was responsible for 2008 Malegaon attack and the RSS for the 2007 Mecca Masjid blast in Hyderabad.

Home Minister P. Chidambaram said that while there was a finger-pointing for every terror incident towards the neighbouring country, a clear reference to Pakistan, there is also an existence of home grown terror modules as also right-wing fascist forces.

The Home Minister, while speaking on a debate in Rajya Sabha on internal security on Thursday, said there are indications of involvement of Indian module in the July 13 Mumbai blasts that killed 26 people.

It is for the first time that the government has pointed towards the involvement of a home grown terror group for the three explosions in the metropolis.

The Home Minister also said all over the world right-wing fascist forces were on the rise and India is no exception to it.

“While no conclusion has been reached, all indications point to Indian module,” Mr. Chidambaram said about the Mumbai blasts, adding that perhaps it could be the same module that carried out a blast in the German Bakery in Pune last year.

“We cannot live in denial. We cannot close our eyes to facts. There are home grown modules. Indian modules. They do not belong to one religion,” Mr. Chidambaram said.

He said the Pune and Mumbai blasts are “two major blots” in the last 32 months since he assumed the charge of Home Minister. “I accept it,” he said.

Headley was 'very pleased' by Mumbai attacks

A key plotter of the November 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, Pakistani American David Coleman Headley, has testified that he was very pleased with the carnage by Pakistan based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Testifying as prosecution's star witness in the trial of his one time friend, Pakistan born Canadian Tahawwur Rana, Headley said Tuesday that he learned about the attacks in Mumbai through a text message telling him to turn on the TV.
Asked by prosecutor Daniel Collins what he thought about the news coverage, Headley said in his monotone voice: "I was pleased."
IN fact he enjoyed every bit of the mayhem done during Mumbai Attacks, watching on Telly.  Pity he would never be punished for his crimes against humanity as he has struck a plea bargain with US prosecutors at New York.
