Mumbai: Normal life was thrown out of gear and train services disrupted as heavy rains lashed the city for the third consecutive day Monday, following which the civic body issued a high tide alert.

"Train services on Central Railway and Harbour line are closed for sometime. We are continuously monitoring the situation. Once the water recedes on tracks, we will start the services," Central Railway PRO AK Singh said.

Water-logging has been reported from several areas and all BMC-run schools have been closed.

(CNN) - A mother and two children drowned inside a car Friday after floodwater washed their vehicle away, a Pittsburgh city official said.

The city experienced a heavy storm and flooding shortly after 4 p.m. Friday, said Michael Huss, Pittsburgh director of Public Safety.

"The manhole covers began to lift from the rush of water, and the roadway flooded," Huss said.

CNN affiliate WTAE reported that the incident took place in the eastern Pittsburgh neighborhood of Highland Park in Pennsylvania.

Huss said the family's vehicle washed down the roadway and got stuck next to a tree.

"The three could not get out of the car before it was submerged," Huss said. "The water had a lot of force behind (it), and all three inside drowned."

In addition, Huss said, "We have one person whose car was located, but that person is still unaccounted for."

Dive units were searching late Friday night.

Karachi: Over 2 lakh people have been affected and displaced by a fresh wave of floods that has hit parts of Pakistan's southern Sindh province, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Monday.

The heavy floods that swept away hundreds of villages and damaged rice crops have stirred memories of the flood disaster that hit Sindh last year.

The NDMA said that over 2 lakh people have been affected in flood-hit areas of interior Sindh.

The NDMA confirmed during a briefing to Prime Minister Yousuf Raja Gilani who visited the flood affected areas.

Heavy rains with thunderstorms have lashed many parts of the country since Saturday night, causing untold misery in the rural areas of Sindh.

NDMA said hundreds of villages have been flooded in Badin after a breach in a major salinity drain widened further to 200 feet.

Villages and crops have been flooded in Pangrio while a grid station has also been inundated.

A large number of people have been marooned at dry spots in Badin, Tando Mohammad Khan and Mirpur Khas after being surrounded by flood waters.

The NDMA told Gilani that thousands of people have been rescued by the Pakistan Army and Navy.

A family picnic turned into tragedy when three members washed away in flash flood.

The incident took place when five members of a family to Patalpani in Indore for picnic. All of them struck into the flash flood caused by heavy spell of rain and washed away. However, two of them rescued alive while three others drowned.

One body was fished out by the firefighters while search is on for two others.

Patna:  Hundreds of people in Bihar have been forced to abandon their homes as flood waters entered nearly 100 villages and rising levels of most rivers threatened to inundate many others, officials said on Saturday.

All the inundated villages were in flood-prone districts of Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Purnia, Araria, Saharsa, Madhepura and Bagaha, officials said.

"Water entered these villages after levels rose in all the major rivers following heavy rains in the state and the catchment areas of Nepal," a water resource department official said.

BEIJING, June 10 (Xinhua) -- A new round of rain and floods battered China Thursday night and Friday, killing 35 people in central China's Hubei and Hunan provinces.

Torrential rains triggered floods and landslides that toppled homes and destroyed river embankments in Hubei's city of Xianning, killing 20 people and leaving five others missing, a spokesman with the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters said.

Meanwhile, nearly 100,000 people were stranded by floods in three of Xianning's counties, including Tongcheng, Chibi and Chongyang, the spokesman said.

I wonder whether these are natural disasters or climate change induced calamities!
